Wind in my hair…

My mind is blown…

Figuratively! 😀 We went down to the beach today, and walked a few kilometers on the beach, while the wind was doing its wild dancing thing again.

We live about 150 km from the coast , and we enjoy going to the beach whenever we can, or whenever the weather allows it (our favourite beach is Struisbaai, Western Cape) . Lately, the weather has been atrocious, so when it looked like today was going to be a nice day, we decided to take a chance and go. The closer we got to the beach, the stronger the wind became. By the time we arrived, we were quite disappointed at how bad it was.

Nevertheless, we decided to be brave – we took off our shoes, put on our jackets, and we walked for miles! The wind tried its best to upset and uproot us, but to no avail. Daisy the border collie x was beside herself from excitement and joy, and ran herself ragged chasing waves, greeting people and smelling kelp and shells. And us? We breathed deeply, threw things we found on the beach for Daisy to chase, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, talked and walked, all while the wind was pulling and pushing against us.

It was exhilarating!! It was what I needed. I feel the better for having taken the walk in the wild wind, next to the crashing waves with fresh air in my lungs. I should do that more often…

"To the beach I go,
to clear my mind and get thoughts to flow,
to the beach I go
to kill the stress and heal my soul..."
Windsurfers enjoying the windy day.

You have to try it sometime – when you’re feeling down or low, go the beach (if possible), whatever the weather, and walk all of the demons out of your body. If you cannot get to a beach, just walk, it makes such a difference to your state of mind.

Until next time, walk, walk, walk. 🙂

About zelmare

Hallo to you from the southern most part of the African continent - South Africa!! To put my life in a nutshell : I raised 3 absolutely fabulous kids (I'm sure you will hear a lot about them, since I am a very proud mama), I became a doting grandmother two years ago and recently bought a house in the Western Cape, and in doing so, realized a dream I've had for many, many years. I love traveling, which I don't do often enough. I love living a simple life - cooking, gardening, knitting and of course, blogging. There is still a lot I want to do and see in my lifetime, but time will tell how much of that I can actually accomplish. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of lovely new friends and interesting people here on WordPress! :)

  1. Great photos, Zelmare! We often walk beaches with the dogs, even in windy weather but avoiding rain! Blows the cobwebs away and you open up with the open vista of the beach! The dogs love it and tire themselves out, which means they zonk out when we get home! 🤣🤣
