About things I do and don’t do. About a new life I’ve started in a new place. Changes.

Done, and dusted.

Ready for guests. Not quite where I want it yet, but soon… 🙂

At last.

Yes, it is done! I can at last say that the guesthouse is done. I’ve even had guests stay already! And a couple more bookings coming up. I am grateful and relieved. 🙂

I am also very, very broke after this little exercise, but hopefully that will be remedied by enough bookings pouring in over the next few months.🤞🏻 (From my mouth, to God’s ears…)

Of course, as with most reno’s, there are still things to be done, but those are minor compared to the big changes and building that is now done. I want to get/make some art for the walls, which are too bare for my liking. Some more/bigger area rugs to cozy the place up. And one or two practical things to add to make people’s stay here as comfortable as possible. And I definitely need to ‘prettify’ the space outside the second unit, which used to be a place where we put things that were in the way… But I need some money first, and for that I need bookings. We have cleaned it up and painted the walls, so at least it is tidy now. So please, hold thumbs for me, that the guests book both units regularly from now on.

I am still enjoying my SO’s company. He came down for a ‘quick’ two weeks to help with the building, and ended up staying quite a bit longer than planned. I am not complaining… 🙂

Winter is definitely on its way. I can feel it coming in the air – early mornings especially. Once again, I am not complaining. It is time. Our rainy season is about to start, so bring it on! Our dams are getting emptier by the day, so the cold and the rain can not come soon enough.

Can you see how empty this dam is? And this was taken about 3 weeks ago, so it is probably worse by now!

My last planting of tomatoes is not doing too well. Of course, they were planted a bit out of season, but I had hoped that I could get at least some tomatoes before the cold sets in. It seems like that is not going to happen. I am still hoping. I am going to enclose the plants in some thick plastic, and keep my fingers crossed that it will act like a hothouse.

I had a very quiet day today. It felt weird after the last while running up and down the whole time. I am just about ready to take Daisy for her walk, and then, that is that for the day.

So, Daisy was getting impatient, and I ended up taking her for her walk earlier than planned. Walk done and dusted. Now for an ice cold glass of wine, and feet up…

The Monday after the week before.

Fishing boats in the harbour.

We had a good weekend.

Although we still worked on the guesthouse on Saturday, we most certainly did not over exert ourselves. It is close to being done now, and I hope to list the unit today so we can start welcoming guests. 🙂

Sunday was another stunner of a day. The weekend was supposed to be as hot as Hades, and it did get close! Yesterday was a scorcher! But we drove down to the seaside and spent a wonderful few hours exploring, walking, eating, talking, and of course, driving. We drove down to Struisbaai again – about 150 km’s from home. A perfect distance to get out for the day!

A very special experience for me, was ‘meeting’ the stingrays that frequent the harbour in Struisbaai – they are well known by the locals, as they come into the harbour regularly to say ‘hi’. We were on the little jetty eating our ice creams, when suddenly the shadow appeared in the water! We watched it for a while, and suddenly there were two, and then three! They peacefully glided through the water around and under the jetty for quite some time. It was magic.

The long walk on the beautiful beach once again did its magic for me. I always come away feeling grounded and relaxed after we’ve been there. It was hot, yes, but next to the sea with the waves breaking on the beach, the clear sky, and Daisy cavorting in the water, it was a feel good day.

And today? Well, today started off with rain! Yay!!! Hopefully the start of a very good rainy season. It is predicted to be cold and wet today, so a day made for me!! I will finish painting the table that has to go into the guesthouse so I can list it, and then I am going to spend some time knitting or crocheting, something I haven’t done for a while.

Enjoy your day, if I have anything to do with it, I am certainly going to enjoy mine! 😀

Cool weather, and fibre (the internet kind)on one day!!

I am enjoying a wonderfully cool and cloudy day. 🙂

We had fibre installed today, after 4 years of intense frustration as far as internet goes. Our previous service provider was our erstwhile national telephone service, Telkom, but they’ve been going downhill over the last number of years, to the point where just about nobody uses their services anymore.

So, after the years of anger and frustration, I am sincerely hoping that we are at last going to be able to connect and stay connected without the continuous dips we have grown to expect. I do need to be able to have stable internet so I can talk to my children in Canada and Ireland, something which has been close to impossible the last few weeks. And since fibre has at last come to our town, it is time to upgrade!

About them feelings – I know that when you are in a situation that you can do nothing about, it does not help stressing about it. If you are not able to change anything, do not get upset or angry. That is, my head knows all of that. My heart is another matter. My heart is a rebel. My heart wants to get up and shout obscenities to the stupid people who are so inconsistent with their rules and regulations regarding Covid. They are messing with people’s lives. I would like for them to explain to the world how they figure out some of their crazy rules. And my anger and frustration will continue flaring up from time to time until this madness ends.

Mostly my head manages to control my heart, but I feel like a ticking time bomb most of the time. It has to stop soon…

On to the guesthouse. It is still not quite finished. Little things are stopping it from being operational, and somehow we (and by we I mean me) are just not getting around to it. The only big thing still to be done, is I have to buy a bed for the second unit. And I keep putting that off. I will just have to go out and get that dang bed, so I can start advertising and hopefully get some guests in.

A day of mixed feelings, but overall a good one – we’ve got fibre now!! And I’ve got a date, honey and nut loaf in the oven! Soon to be enjoyed with afternoon coffee. 🙂

I hope you are having a good day out there. Let me know!!!

A Sunday bike ride.

What a sight!! How beautiful is this? The coastal road in all its glory!

I know, I know, it is already Tuesday.

But I want to post some pictures from this past Sunday, because I enjoyed it so very much. And also, I don’t have anything profound to say at the moment…

We did a wonderful roundtrip – from home, we went through the Overberg district which is a beautiful area with rolling hills and wide open spaces, and it is well known for sheep, wheat and canola production. Onwards from there to the seaside where we had an early lunch in Hermanus where whale enthusiasts from all over the world go every year to do some whale watching. Onto the coastal road from Hermanus right up to Gordon’s Bay, and from there over the mountains and back home again. A 400km trip in total, and the perfect way to spend the day. 🙂

So, without further ado, onto the pics…

Wide open spaces of the Overberg district.
Coastal road.

It does clear the cobwebs, riding on a motorbike… And then I feel ready for whatever the week can throw at me!

Guesthouse reno.

Guesthouse cottage from my back patio.

Hi! I’m still around, would you believe!! 😁

You can be forgiven for thinking or hoping ( 😉 ) that I’ve thrown in the towel on blogging, but sorry, no.

I’ve been busier than I’ve been in a very long time, and just did not have the time to sit and chat to you and download pictures. I also realized how much time blogging takes up, because it is not only about the writing, it is also reading and commenting on the blogs you follow. I did get behind – way behind! And it is difficult to catch up.

The guesthouse is still not a 100% done, but like I mentioned in the previous blog, the one unit is completely comfortable and livable – just a few things I still feel I want to do to add to the overall charm and comfort. The second unit is still some way from being finished. Oi…

Here are some pictures to give you an idea of the changes and the progress. I tried to give you some reference points so you can figure out what I’ve done.

Before : Counter between kitchen and dining area.
The counter built up, dining area now a kitchen/diner.
Nook behind the door – previously the linen and storage cupboard’s place.
Now the washing up nook.
Previously: the kitchen – lots of wasted space.
Now: Bedroom and bathroom.

So, those are the big changes!

The previous bedroom is now the whole second unit, and is the one that is still a work in progress, and I’ll update you later on that. To end up with, a picture or two of the living area.

Previously: The view from the kitchen. Lots and lots of wasted space.
Now: the view from the bedroom entrance towards the rest of the unit.

That’s it folks!

This is what has been keeping me busy lately, and it is not done yet. This coming week, I want to push for the second unit. By the end of the week, I want it done and listed for occupation. Let’s hold thumbs for that…🤞🏻

I apologize for not reading and commenting as regularly as I usually do, hopefully that will change again soon. In the meantime, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
