This is us.

I thought I’d do something different today.

Instead of trying to help you, or teach you, or tell you off, or moan about the heat, I’m just going to post a few pictures. I don’t post a huge amount of personal photographs, but since it’s Friday, the start of the weekend, and I’m missing a lot of people, I’ll introduce you to some of them.

I’ll start off with this collage, introduce the people in the pics to you, and from there you’ll know who is who. 🙂

From top left: my mom and I; my daughter and her little family; my significant other and I, and at the bottom – my 2 sons, me, my daughter-in law (wife to my eldest son on the far L)

Like I said in my introduction on my homepage, I am the proud mother of three (now 5 with my children- in law!) and doting grandmother to one precious little girl. And my significant other is VERY significant in my life, even if we are apart a lot of the time…

I am on my own quite a lot, so blogging and my hobbies (mainly knitting/crocheting and gardening) keep me going and keep me sane!

Have a lovely weekend, and whatever you do, be safe. 😕🐞

Feelings, February and Food.

My mosaic blanket – The Queen CAL.

Have you ever had a feeling that something bad is about to happen?

That feeling that sticks in your gut? It is nearly like you’ve been to the doctor and you are waiting for your test results. And it tends to stick, at least for a day.

I get that quite often, and I’m not sure how to interpret it. Is it normal anxiousness? Is it my sixth sense warning me about something I’m too dense to see?

I should probably start writing down when it happens and for how long. Maybe I can then pinpoint what triggers it, and if it has any validity. Other than that it does ease a bit when I take deep breaths, so at least I get enough oxygen for that day! I don’t like it when that happens, but today is a glorious day, so I will not let it spoil the day for me.

It is already the last Friday of the month. Monday is not only the start of a new week, but also of a new month. Have you had a look at your calendar yet? February is a perfect month this year. A beautiful, exact 4 week month – Mon. to Sun., four times. 🙂

I have at last finished my mosaic crochet baby blanket, as you can see from the picture above. It is one of the most enjoyable items I’ve ever made, and even though thousands of people have made much prettier and larger versions of this same blanket, I am quite proud of how it turned out. I will most definitely crochet a much bigger one in future.

I feel like something yummy to go with my afternoon coffee today, so I’m thinking that I’ll make a different version of the loaf in this previous post – I’ve got oranges, so I’ll swop the lemons for oranges, maybe add some rosemary to the syrup for an extra touch. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

You guys must have an awesome weekend, stay safe, stay happy!!! I’ll play you out with one of my favourite songs! Enjoy! 😀

Softly, softly…

I decided to go easy on you today. To tread, oh, so softly, softly…

I am ecstatic that my tomatoes are doing so well!! Remember my earlier post about my garden? Well, I’ve been picking some tomatoes – organic, pesticide free – regularly for more than a week (probably more than 2 weeks already, time goes by so quickly!), and new baby ones keep appearing on the vines. Happy me! 😀 (See, not grumpy and asking uncomfortable questions all the time… 😉 ) I’ve started putting some shade netting over them, to save them from the birds.

My heirloom ‘Oxheart’ tomatoes.
My thriving tomato plants. Can you see all the green ones?

Still on the subject of food – something that is very dear to my heart 😉 – today I canned, or tried to can, some cherries. We bought two boxes, and I’m worried that they are going to go off quicker than we can eat them, so for the first time ever, I did some canning! We will find out soon if it was a successful endeavour or not. Now I just need to make some lovely vanilla ice cream to have with the cherries on Christmas day…

Cherrieeeeeees!

I have also started looking at a Christmas menu. I know, I know, I left it a bit late! But that’s just me. We do have a ham already, and there are the cherries and ice cream. So, I have to still fill in the rest. Soon, soon…

Enjoy your Friday – I know in big parts of the world it is not Friday anymore – and your weekend, if we don’t chat again soon.

End of the week – does it still mean anything?

Peace and calmness…

So, Friday has come around again. And Friday 13th, to top it off!!! (To me a very special day, as it is my daughters birthday today, and since she was born, the 13th held no threat to me anymore – how could it, it was the best day of my life, when I became a mother for the first time!!!)

But back to Fridays, and weekends – are you pleased it’s weekend? Excited? Relieved? Or does it not matter to you at the moment?

Used to be, we all couldn’t wait for Friday to roll around. Tired after a week’s work, excited to hang out with friends or get some well earned rest. Sometimes there were chores to be done around the house, shopping to be done, people to see.

Nowadays, it seems (to me at least) that all the days are basically the same, and whether it is weekend or not doesn’t really matter. In some countries a lot of people have started working again, in others most are still in lockdown, or in lockdown again. Here in South Africa, most of the industries have started up again, so weekends are becoming more important again.

How has this ‘inertia’ impacted on your life? Did/do you find it difficult with most days feeling the same and sort of just flowing into each other? Does it make you upset, not having a routine to stick to?

I like doing my own thing, deciding day by day how I’m going to spend the day. It is not very conducive to earning good money, but in my industry (real estate), most of the activity depends on the amount of buyers that is around – if there is no activity, then also (obviously!), no money will be coming in. And it is only now starting to pick up…

So, for now, I’m fine with being relatively inactive, with short bursts of business. I’m coming to that part of my life anyway, where things slow down, and restfulness and calm take over. If only one got paid for doing nothing…

Until next time, enjoy your weekend! 🙂

Friday. Friyay?

The view from Chapman’s Peak Drive towards Hout Bay, yesterday, on one of the most beautiful days in a long time…

“Rest and be thankful.” ~ William Wadsworth

It is weekend, people!

To be honest, I’m not sure why I am so excited about it. My days are pretty much all the same these days. Which does not necessarily mean it is boring. It means I don’t have to go into the office every day for the whole day, I can go in for a couple of hours, or more. I can even go on a Saturday if I want to. Or not go in at all. My choice. And apart from that, I can sit in my PJ’s and blog until 10 in the morning if I want to (I’m not saying that is what I am doing now… 😉 ) My SO* and I can go to Cape Town on a Thursday for the whole day, should we want to. Which we did, yesterday. 🙂

I’m rambling. What I’m trying to say is, my life is pretty much my own at the moment, and weekends are not much different to me from the rest of the week. So I have no real reason to be excited about it being Friday. Yet, I am. Years of conditioning, I suppose.

I hope your week was not too rough, and I hope you have a wonderful couple of days, doing whatever it is you prefer doing on a weekend. Spend some time being thankful for health, family, time off, having food on the table, etc.

So, until next time, blog friends, rest and be happy! 🙂
